Mermaid Music

The statue of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid” will be placed at the heart of the Denmark Pavilion at EXPO 2010 in Shanghai. With her, she will bring music from Denmark. Under the heading “Mermaid Music”, 26 talented Danish bands, choirs and orchestras will give performances during the 26 weeks of EXPO 2010, from the 1st of May until the end of October.

Every Wednesday visitors to EXPO can listen to the multitude of musicians and singers from Denmark who will be performing at the Denmark Pavilion or at the nearby Europe Square inside the EXPO area. The music, mostly modern rhythmic music, includes a great variety of genres - both jazz, blues, world, rock, pop and electro are represented. And the performers range from large choirs to one man shows. The many Danish musicians will not only be performing at EXPO, but they will use this as a starting point to play and sing at other locations in China. You can find the names of the bands on our calendar on our website.

Mermaid Music should also be seen as a part of a cultural dialogue between Denmark and China. Several of the orchestras will invite Chinese guest performers to join them during their visit to China.
